About Us

UK Markey Cancer Center Campus

Located on the campus of the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Medical Center, the UK Markey Cancer Center campus encompasses four separate buildings:

The Ben F. Roach Cancer Care Facility (1986)

Patient care is the highest priority and hallmark of the Ben F. Roach Cancer Care Facility. Each year, over 1,300 new cancer patients are evaluated and treated here. This facility symbolizes the promise of innovative care for cancer patients and their families.

The Dorothy Enslow Combs Cancer Research Building (1989)

Cancer research is part of the way the UK Markey Cancer Center practices medicine. Research inspires new ideas and new methods that help improve patient care. Gifted and dedicated researchers keep us at the forefront of discovery, and that translates into improved care and hope.

The M. Margrite Davis and Ralph E. Mills Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Spectroscopy Facility (1992)

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is used both in research and patient care to improve diagnostic abilities and to understand the body's physiologic processes.

The Marylou Whitney and John Hendrickson Cancer Facility for Women (2001)

This facility enhances our capabilities in many areas, including the treatment of breast, ovarian, and gynecologic cancers.

The Whitney and Hendrickson Cancer Facility for Women is the fourth building constructed by the Markey Cancer Foundation at the UK Markey Cancer Center. The new building houses innovative multi-disciplinary outpatient clinics and programs that are designed to serve women and their families better.

Multidisciplinary cancer clinics such as:

  • the UK Comprehensive Breast Care Center,
  • the Multidisciplinary Lung Cancer Program,
  • the Multidisciplinary Gastrointestinal Cancer Program, and
  • the Multidisciplinary Genitourinary Cancer Program

These clinics and programs provide innovative approaches to patient care where patients can see all of their specialists in one clinic. If cancer is diagnosed, a team of specialists promptly reviews the patient's case and discusses available treatment options, all in the same day.

The Hematology/Oncology Clinic provides treatment for lymphomas, leukemias, and other cancers of the blood and blood-forming tissues, as well as a wide variety of solid and non-solid tumors.

The Gynecologic Oncology Service provides women with a full range of cancer care, including screening for cervical and ovarian cancers, and the latest and most effective therapy for gynecologic cancers.

"The UK Markey Cancer Center already excels and is recognized nationally in many areas," said Alfred M. Cohen, M.D., director of the UK Markey Cancer Center. "The new Cancer Facility for Women, with new state-of-the-art technology and the multi-disciplinary approach to cancer care, will enhance Markey's ability to provide the best care for our patients."
