In 1978, Dr. Ben Roach and others began the planning and organization to build a cancer center for Kentucky. This major initiative was funded by the Markey Cancer Foundation (formerly known as the McDowell Cancer Foundation) with the financial support of the people, civic organizations, corporations, and businesses throughout the United States. Over the past 30 years, the Markey Cancer Foundation has built the four facilities that now comprise the Markey Cancer Center. Once completed, the Foundation donated them to the University of Kentucky. |
