Online Giving

Good Stewards: Over our 30+ year history, over 90 cents out of every dollar raised has gone to support our cancer programs. The other ten cents was used for general administration and fund raising programs. Markey Cancer Foundation has raised more than $65 million to date to provide the facilities and to support the programs of the Markey Cancer Center.

Your donations have long been the cornerstone of our progress. Gifts from individuals and organizations to the Markey Cancer Foundation are used to:

• advance cancer research programs and promising young researchers
• foster innovative patient care
• purchase state-of-the-art scientific equipment, and
• endow chairs and professorships to recruit and retain exceptional doctors at the Markey Cancer Center.

Programs / Funds you can support

• NCI CCC Designation Fund
  This fund will help provide the resources needed to grow research efforts, clinical programs and infrastructure of the Markey Cancer Center for designation by the National Cancer Institute as a Comprehensive Cancer Center. Learn more about NCI CCC designation here.
  
  
• Enduring Gift Fund
  This endowment will be a long-lasting legacy in honor and memory of our founder, Dr. Ben F. Roach, and ensure the viability of the Markey Cancer Foundation in perpetuity. The most important value of your gift is the hope and compassion it offers to cancer patients and their families. On behalf of the families we serve, we thank you for your favorable consideration to making a gift for this vital effort.
  
  
• Patient Support Program
  Provides snacks to chemotherapy patients, items for patient rooms, supports the Breast Cancer Support Group, and much more.
  

  

Memorial, In Honor of, and Special Occasion Gifts

For special occasions, many people have found great satisfaction in making honor and memorial gifts to the Markey Cancer Foundation. The acknowledgement of these gifts will be sent to whomever the donor directs.

  Made in memory of family members, friends and colleagues who have died.
  
  
• In Honor Of Gifts
  Show someone special in your life a measure of affection, admiration or gratitude for birthdays, anniversaries and holidays.
  
  
• Special Occasion Gifts
  You may wish to celebrate a special occasion in your life by encouraging family members, friends and colleagues to make donations to Markey in lieu of personal gifts. When such a gift is received, a special card or notification is sent to the family or the person.
  

  

 

Annual Giving

The mission of the Annual Giving Fund is to support the MCF in the here and now:   the Annual Giving Fund can step in, providing flexible, immediate funds.  Its purpose is to ensure the MCF has the dexterity to act on the needs that arise each year.

Planned Gifts & Estate Planning

Gifts That Give Back: Gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts are planned gifts that can provide annual payments for you, your spouse or another person, reduce your taxes through charitable deduction and save estate/gift taxes. Gifts made through wills and estate planning provide donors with tax savings and other financial benefits.

• Gifts by Bequest
  If you are concerned about preserving income and investment but still want to make a gift to Markey, remember to include the Markey Cancer Foundation in your will. Markey can also be named as a beneficiary of retirement plans, trusts or life insurance policies. Such gifts can reduce estate taxes.
  
  

Gifts of Stock

Gifts of appreciated securities, closely held stock and mutual funds can be extremely beneficial to both you and Markey Cancer Foundation. These gifts can help you diversify your assets and minimize capital gains taxes. Contrary to popular belief, gifts of closely held stock can create the same tax benefits as shares that are publicly traded. As with other kinds of gifts, gifts of stock can be directed to any area of cancer: research, patient care or other cancer related programs.

Giving appreciated securities is a fast and easy way to make a gift to Markey Cancer Foundation and get considerable tax benefits. It is almost always a better strategy to give appreciated securities directly to the Foundation, rather than selling them and donating the proceeds of the sale. In fact, many of our partners and friends find that the tax benefits associated with giving to Markey Cancer Foundation actually allow them to increase the size of their gift.
