Letter From The President
Dear Friends,

Randall G. Rowland, MD, PhD

I am excited about the opportunity I have
as President and CEO of the Markey Cancer
Foundation. The mission of the foundation is
to invest in the people, the programs and the
facilities that will enable the Markey Cancer
Center to discover the cures and to devise new
and better treatments to fight cancer.
In the 30+ year history of the Markey Cancer
foundation, the foundation has supported
the center in developing both facilities and
intellectual capital. Initial funds were raised for
the construction of the four buildings that
comprise the cancer center and for the creation
and funding of six endowed chairs for the
recruitment and retention of highly qualified
people in leadership positions at the center.
Building on the legacy of Dr. Ben Roach and
the founding board members, it is our goal to
re-energize our efforts and to promote the
cancer center to a major research and patient
care center worthy of national recognition.
In line with the vision of UK Health Care, the
Markey Cancer Foundation looks to the future
when we can take care of the sickest cancer
patients in Kentucky with state-of-the-art
treatments and facilities. We look to the support
of old and new friends - people who understand
the personal and devastating effect of
cancer on lives - to help us realize this goal.
I hope you will take a moment to understand
our needs and consider how you might support
our enduring cause.
Sincerely,
Randall G. Rowland, MD, PhD
